Discover all that the public schools of the Triangle have to offer.

Wake County Public Schools

The largest and most prominent school district in the Triangle is Wake County Public Schools, which serves the large majority of Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Morrisville, and Wake Forest. The district has received state and national recognition for its outstanding academic programming, which includes academically or intellectually gifted programs, International Baccalaureate programs, robust, music, theatre arts, visual arts, and dance programs, and most importantly, several outstanding magnet schools and career-focused programs.

Career & Technical Education

The Career and Technical Education program focuses on preparing students for future employment or advanced education. Students are exposed to business and IT courses, as well as technology, agriculture, health occupations, family and consumer sciences, and life skills classes. Each school features its own career development coordinators to guide students to success.

Magnet Schools

Magnet schools provide challenging programs tailored to student strengths. Students choose classes in architecture, machines, science fiction, inventions, environmental science, music, art, and so much more. Some focus on Gifted & Talented students, and 27 magnet schools of Wake County have received national recognition.

STEM Schools

STEM schools offer students practical and modern learning designed to help them learn to create and manage projects that apply engineering and design skills. Students take part in internships and job shadows, partnering with top Triangle companies such as Cisco, Lenovo, NCSU, Lego, Biogen, or the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Career Academies

Career academies are smaller learning communities within larger high schools tailored to career themes and work-based learning. Each student will complete an internship and take part in work-based learning activities, such as career fairs and industry tours.

Alternative Schools

Alternative schools provide additional options for students not finding success or reaching their greatest potential in a traditional school setting. This can include at-risk students, those with specialized learning needs, or students with past behavioral problems.

Johnston County Schools

Johnston County Schools serves over 33,000 students across the towns and rural areas of Johnston County. The district has more than doubled in size over the last 15 years, with a current total of 23 elementary schools, 13 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 alternative schools—and its performance is continually improving year after year.
